LRE - Long Reach Ethernet

Long Reach Ethernet is a technology used by Cisco to extend the distance at which an Ethernet device may operate.  Normally, Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, and Gigabit Ethernet over copper can only travel 100 meters (328 feet) and be within specified operational parameters.  LRE can reach distances as far as 3500 to 5000 feet depending upon wiring conditions, desired data rates, and profiles used.  Higher transfer rates imply shorter distances.

The following table is reproduced from Cisco documentation and defines the default profiles defined within LRE equipment and their theoretical operational speeds and signal to noise ratios.
