NEWS: Dial Up Modem Connections don't need scripts.

The Springfield and West Plains modem pools have been upgraded to allow easy dial in without the use of a script file.
Users should be able to connect to the modem pool by simply adding their username and password to the dial up networking connection screen.

Networking Administration has finished upgrading all of the 278 modems making up the Springfield pools and the 23 modems in the West Plains pool.  Similar upgrades are under study for Mt. Grove users.

Users should be able to log on to Missouri State University without needing the script file.  Please note, if you currently use a script file or other connection method, it should work without changes.

Simply create a new dial up network connection icon, filling in the appropriate phone number, user name and password information.  Please refer to the dial up instructions if you need help in creating a connection icon.

The servers are all configured to use a connection authentication method called PAP.   Microsoft Windows 95, 98, and NT will all user this method of authentication provided that the user actually fills out a User Name and Password correctly and that the user does not have the "open dialog box after connecting" box checked.  For this reason, we suggest simply creating another connection.  The dial up instructions provided by User Support may refer to other connection management software or utilities.  These optional components can better help users manage their connections and perform redundant tasks such as redialing.
