The data and video nodes were successfully moved on June 2nd as planned with all services restored by 6:00 p.m.  The Internet went down at about 9:00 a.m. and was restored before 10:00 a.m. also as planned.  Should any problems be suspected with any of the affected services listed below, please contact Mark Harsen or anyone else in Networking immediately!  Please accept our thanks for everyone's cooperation and patience!

Data Network Impact:

Computer Services Networking will be shutting down the Blair Shannon network zone on Saturday June 2nd,  2001 starting at about 8:30 a.m. to move all equipment to the new telecommunications facility.  Full services are not guaranteed until Sunday, June 3rd at midnight, but everything should be back up by 10:00 p.m. on Saturday barring any unforeseen problems.  Restoration of the Springfield Internet feed will be given priority and it is expected to be down less than an hour.

The following data facilities and services will be down for all or part of the planned outage:

bulletBlair Shannon
bulletDogwood East
bulletDogwood West
bulletFlorence Hall
bulletFreudenberger House
bulletGreenwood Lab School
bulletHammons House
bulletInternet, Lebanon
bulletInternet, Mt. Grove
bulletInternet, Springfield
bulletMadison Hall
bulletMonroe Hall
bulletMt. Grove Campus link
bulletNew Hall
bulletPlaster Student Union
bulletProject Access
bulletUniversity Hall
bulletWoods House

If anyone has reasonable cause to need services during this planned outage, we will attempt to restore those services first.  However, intermittent outages for all facilities can be expected for most of Saturday after services are initially restored.  We will, of course, have to consider all technical and physical limitations of any service request and cannot satisfy all potential needs.

Currently, we will strive to restore the Internet first and all other facilities will be restored in the order most technical and physically convenient for the conversion team.  Facilities not mentioned, such as the West Plains Campus, Dialup Modems, and Electronic Mail servers, will not be affected by this outage.

Video Network Impact:

The BearNet ISDN (H.320) video network core will also be shutdown and moved into the new telecommunications facility starting at about 8:30 a.m. on Saturday June 2nd,  2001.  Full services are not guaranteed until Sunday, June 3rd at midnight, but everything should be back up by 10:00 p.m. on Saturday barring any unforeseen problems.  Due to the added complexity and end user involvement in the testing process, full testing of the BearNet core will not be completed until June 5th

The following video facilities and services will be down for all or part of the planned outage:

bulletCarrington 203 & 209C

Internet based IP (H.323) video travels over the data network and will be affected by the outage outlined under the  "Data Impact" section above.
