Faster
Internet: Springfield Internet increased from 20Mb to 30Mb.
April 3, 2001
Due to continued rises in Internet usage, Missouri State University Networking submitted a request
to MOREnet yesterday to have our Springfield Internet bandwidth increased from
20Mb to 30Mb. This request was granted today and all users now have the
potential of experiencing even faster Internet access for all applications.
All
users at Springfield, Mt. Grove, and Lebanon share this specific connection to
the Internet. Chart-recorder style utilization charts for Springfield
Internet are available online along with many other utilization
charts. All charts reporting bandwidth do so using bytes (instead of
bits) per second.
Since our Internet connection is ATM cell based instead of
Ethernet packet based, there is some loss of usable bandwidth. We usually
receive about 87% efficiency on this translation which means our real throughput
went from about 16.8Mb per second of useable bandwidth to about 26Mb per second
of useable bandwidth.

Harsen or any of the other Networking
staff.
