Springfield Off-campus Modems! Twenty-three more dialup modem lines were
added on November 7, 2001. The on-campus modem pool was reduced by 24 modems.
November 7, 2001
As of today, twenty-three more modems were added to the Springfield
off-campus modem pool (417-521-1234) thus reducing the number of busy signals
received by clients. The on-campus modem pool has seen declining use
primarily due to the presents of Ethernet network at all Springfield campus
locations, including all of the Resident's Halls. Therefore, a single
"DS1" communication line supporting 24 modems was disconnected from the
University's phone switch and an off-campus "ISDN PRI" from MCI was added in
it's place. The net result was that the on-campus pool was reduced from 48
modems to 24 modems and the on-campus pool was increased from 235 to 258 modems.
Utilization charts for the Springfield
on-campus and
off-campus modems are available online.
October 15, 2001
Soon the Springfield off-campus dialup modem lines will increase by 23 due
to the addition of another PRI line. People using the 417-521-1234 number will have 258 modems available.
With the network expansion into residence halls, the on-campus modem pool has
had little activity for several months. One of the DS1 lines will be taken
from this pool and moved to the off-campus pool for expansion where demand is
greater. There are 24 available modems for on-campus modem service
(9,521-1234)
which will continue to meet the demand of campus users.
