Introduction
On January 1st, 2008 the wireless SSID "airbear" will be removed from
service. All users will need to have completed the migration to the new
"access xx" wireless system before that time.
Security enhancementsDue to the advancements in wireless technology, "airbear"
no longer utilizes the most secure method of authentication available.
The new "access xx" series of SSIDs offer a range of encryption levels, all of
which utilize the newer PEAP authentication method. This change ensures
that your user ID and password are not vulnerable to simple wireless hacker
attacks. Networking recommends that you use the highest encryption level
available for your operating system.
Migration process
Changing over to the new "access xx" wireless system is a simple process.
Documents detailing step by step instructions for the setup of the new "access
xx" wireless SSIDs for various operating systems can be found on the Help Desk
website. Please refer to their
Wireless Setup Guides for further information.
Contacts
Please contact the Computer
Services Help Desk or your local User Support Specialist for assistance with
the conversion process. If you have any concerns about the migration
process please
Computer Services Networking for more information.
