NOTICE:  The wireless networks “access 20” and “resnet 20” were removed from service on July 31st, 2009.

 Security weekness

The encryption method used by these networks is very old and has been easy to crack for some time.  While your login ID and password are secure due to the PEAP authentication, anyone who would care to try could easily capture and decode any non encrypted internet traffic sent or received while connected to access/resnet 20.

These networks were originally put into service to support the release of Windows Vista, which at the time was only capable of connecting to a WEP encrypted network when authentication was involved.  However, since the release of service pack one, Windows Vista is capable of connecting to the more secure wireless networks access/resnet 40 and access/resnet 30.  As the need for these two low security networks has passed it is in the best interest of the university and the security of your data to turn them off.

What do I need to do?

If you are already connecting to access/resnet 40 or 30 then you won't need to do anything.
If you are still using access/resnet 20 you will need to reconfigure your computer or device to connect to access/resnet 40 or access/resnet 30.

Instructions for configuring these networks can be found on the Computer Services Helpdesk website:
